THE MEMBERSHIP COVENANT INCLUDED BELOW IS EQUAL PARTS PROMISE, A SUMMARY OF EXPECATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP, AND OUR CONVICTION OF THE PICTURE OF A FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN LIFE, AS DEFINED BY GOD'S WORD.
We require all new members to affirm the membership covenant before joining Newland Church. We also reaffirm our commitment to the covenant at various times throughout the year, stand as a body, and recommit ourselves to it.
NEWLAND CHURCH'S
MEMBERSHIP COVENANT
Having been brought by God’s divine grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and to love him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We do now, in dependence upon His Spirit, solemnly and joyfully make this covenant with each other.
We will submit to the authority of the Scriptures as the final word on all matters of life and doctrine. (2 Tim 3:14-17)
We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace with one another by walking in love, forgiving one another, and by putting away all bitterness, anger, and injurious speech. (Eph 4:1-3, 29-31; Gal 5:16, 25)
We will not forsake to regularly assemble together, to worship God, and mutually build each other up in Christ. (Heb 10:23-25)
We will endeavor to raise our children and all under our care in the training and instruction of the Lord and to seek the salvation of the lost by proclaiming the gospel in our homes, neighborhoods and to the ends of the earth as the Lord enables. (Ephesians 6:4)
We will rejoice at each other’s happiness and bear each other’s burdens and sorrows with tenderness and sympathy. (Gal. 6:2; Romans 12:15)
We will work together to defend and maintain a faithful gospel witness in our worship, administration of the ordinances, preaching, discipline, and doctrines. (Matt 18:15-20; Acts 2:38; 1 Cor. 5:9-13; 11:26; 2 Tim 4:2)
We will cheerfully and regularly contribute to the support of the ministry, the needs of the church, and the relief of the poor. (2 Cor 9:7; Gal 6:10; James 1:27; 1 John 3:17-18)
We will seek, by divine aid, to live carefully in this world by denying ungodliness and worldly passions and pursuing a holy life so as to please the Lord. (Rom 6:1-14; 1 Thess. 4:1; Tit 2:12; 1 Pet. 1:14-16)
We will, when we move from this place, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen (2 Cor 13:14)
